David Fizdale's name did not take long to surface up in the hot seat, as the New York Knicks have struggled from the jump and accumulated a 4-13 record to start the season.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the win-loss column won't be the one that determines Fizdale's fate with the franchise, but rather the overall progress of the team. Progress, competitiveness and player development are considered paramount for the third-year coach to keep his job.

Many Knicks fans have clamored for Fizdale to get the ax, but he's working with a roster turnover that has allowed him very little continuity. New York signed seven players in free agency, added two rookies to the mix in RJ Barrett and Ignas Brazdeikis, and nabbed Ivan Rabb right after the season began — that's 10 new players in one offseason.

Fizdale is also tinkering with lineups and trying to find a solution to the mess the front office brought along when they signed four power forwards this summer, along with another one in Rabb (two-way) during the season.

The front office wants to see the development of young players like rookie standout Barrett, Kevin Knox, Mitchell Robinson, and Dennis Smith Jr.— given that they are considered building blocks for the future. If Fizdale manages to get them into a groove and improving, his job might be safe after all.

However, it's hard to fathom Knicks ownership swallowing another losing season without some call for swift changes.
