New York Knicks center Enes Kanter likely has his days counted in The Big Apple, as the recent trade that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks failed to include his name, yet tacked on another starting-caliber center in DeAndre Jordan.
According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, Kanter could become a waiver candidate after Thursday if he is not dealt by the Feb. 7 trade deadline.
The move would only make sense, as the Knicks would be making room for Jordan to start and potentially mentor young players like Mitchell Robinson and Luke Kornet, who could inherit the position after this season.

Kanter is owed a beefy $18.6 million this 2018-19 season and while he is a double-double big man with decent skills at the offensive end, it's unlikely he'll fetch numbers much bigger than his current contract over the summer, given his below-average defensive prowess.
The eighth-year veteran has voiced his frustration with his lack of playing time, front office, and most recently had to be cheered into the basketball court, as fans chanted “we want Kanter” incessantly, forcing coach David Fizdale to please them with a cameo of the Turkish international.
Kanter is still a young asset at 26 years old and can offer teams a quality rebounder off the bench. If waived after the deadline, it won't be long before suitors start to pick up the phone and inquiring about Kanter, as he could prove a boon on a minimum salary for teams looking for reinforcements on the boards.
