There's a wide belief that Kevin Durant potentially signing with the New York Knicks is just a matter of putting pen to paper, as the Golden State Warriors star looks bound for the move this offseason.
According to ESPN's Ian Begley, Durant's reasoning for leaving an All-Star laden roster for one in much need of improvement would be to change the narrative around him, which is him needing other All-Stars to get a ring.
“One opposing executive monitoring Durant's situation closely believes that the opportunity to win in New York — and push the notion that he jumped on the bandwagon to win rings in Oakland from the forefront of fans' consciousness — is a pull for the two-time Finals MVP.
“Winning there would change the narrative around him,” one executive said.”

The expectations in New York are grand if Durant joins — but they would go as far as making the playoffs, instead of winning it all, like the Warriors, are expected to do during this playoff run — let alone for a third straight season.
Besides the slightly dialed-down expectations, it would allow Durant to make the Knicks his own team, taking out the debate of a potential 1A and 1B scenario, as there is with him and homegrown star Stephen Curry.
However, it's unsure if that narrative would chase him if he was to team up with Kyrie Irving, another young star that left a championship-level team to make it out on his own with the Boston Celtics after requesting a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
