Boston Celtics restricted free agent guard Terry Rozier is reportedly open to taking a short-term deal spanning between one and two years, according to Marc Berman of The New York Post. The New York Knicks are among the biggest suitors for his services.

The 25-year-old point man was adamant that he did not intend to return to the Celtics during an early offseason interview in ESPN, a prospect that has left the Celtics aware of what to expect, even if Kyrie Irving leaves.

News of Boston targeting Charlotte Hornets All-NBA point guard Kemba Walker has many thinking the Celtics will be willing to renounce him, as they would have to do so in order to open up the cap room to ink Walker to a four-year, $164 million deal.

According to Berman, there is mutual interest between the Knicks and Rozier, though it will all depend on Walker, who has yet to give Charlotte a definitive no.

The Hornets reportedly planned to offer Walker a lot less than what he would expect, a total of five years for $160-plus million —  roughly $20 million more than what he could make by going elsewhere in free agency, but with another year of service.

Walker could command a max-deal worth $190 million over five seasons, or even a supermax contract that would see him make $221 million over that same span, yet the Hornets have come out ridiculously low on their reported offer, likely souring any chance they had at keeping him.

The Dallas Mavericks have also emerged as a potential candidate, but like the Knicks, they could only pay him a max of $141 million over four years.

Should talks for Walker go haywire, Rozier could be a solid backup option to add to their roster in this free agency bonanza.
