After months of speculation on where he’ll end up playing next, one of the options of Carmelo Anthony has is to seek for a buyout of his contract from the New York Knicks that will allow him to sign with whichever team he wants. While the Houston Rockets continue to be the favorites to land the 10-time All-Star’s services, talks between both teams have not progressed, and he remains a member of the Knicks, making the buyout option even more appealing to Anthony should he really want to part ways with his hometown team.

However, according to Ian Begley of ESPN, the Knicks front office is apparently not interested in negotiating such deal with their star forward.

“There has been little contact between Anthony and members of the organization lately, per sources. Anthony's preference, as of late last month, remained to be traded. Whether that happens before the start of training camp is up to Mills and Perry. They have no interest, at this point, in negotiating a buyout with Anthony (he has two years and $44 million remaining on his contract).”

Although letting Carmelo Anthony and his huge salary go will be beneficial for the Knicks’ future, they also know that he is a unique talent, and that they can get a number of key pieces in exchange for him. It will allow them to speed up their rebuilding process and surround Kristaps Porzingis with more young and talented players.

With only a few weeks left before the start of training camp, it still remains to be seen what the Knicks will opt to do with Anthony’s contract. Which franchise he’ll play for next is still anybody’s guess at this point, but one thing that’s certain is he's still an elite player in the league who could boost any team’s contention for a title with his addition.
