The New York Knicks have once again renewed interest in Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio, to whom they were heavily linked during this year's trade deadline. Certain members of the Knicks organization are pushing to get a deal done in order to bring the Spanish international to The Big Apple, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.

The potential trade deadline acquisition was firm, but suddenly evaporated hours prior to the deadline as most trade conversations do. The Wolves are reportedly still interested in Derrick Rose, a former player of head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau, as he can serve as another familiar face under his system and give rookie Kris Dunn some time to develop.

Rose will become an unrestricted free agent starting July 1, though it is unknown if the Knicks could have a sign-and-trade scenario in the cards, which could play a larger role on what action they can take with the No. 8 overall selection in the draft and their potential pursuit of a point guard in a talent-rich top-of-the-board for this year's selection.

This situation can also factor in New York's reported interest in acquiring an additional first-round pick from the Portland Trail Blazers, eyeing North Carolina‘s dynamic forward Justin Jackson at the middle of the draft, who's set to work out for the team in the near future.

Rubio still has two years left on his contract, making $14.1 million next season and a slight raise to $14.8 the season after that.

The 26-year-old finished fifth in the league with 9.1 assists per game, chipping in 11 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals during his 2016-17 campaign.
