During the offseason, numerous players played pickup basketball together including Carmelo Anthony and Enes Kanter. With the New York Knicks trading Anthony for Kanter, Doug McDermott, and a 2018 second round draft pick from the Chicago Bulls, it has created an ironic storyline.
Kanter reveals he was actually trying to recruit the 10-time All-Star to Oklahoma City according to Brett Dawson of The Oklahoman:
Enes Kanter said this summer, he was talking to a coach who works with Carmelo Anthony, trying to get Melo to come to OKC.

Since the Boston Celtics traded Isaiah Thomas to the Cleveland Cavaliers, there have been heated debates about loyalty. While many criticized Kevin Durant for leaving the Thunder last year, many criticized the Celtics for trading Thomas considering all he has done for the organization. With more players speaking out about this particular topic, Kanter's story is another example of him trying to help the team improve but ending up in the trade.
As Kanter enters a rebuilding process with the Knicks, Anthony will have a better chance of competing for a championship with Russell Westbrook and Paul George. While the defending champion Golden State Warriors are the favorites, the Thunder, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs will attempt to dethrone them.
After being a fan favorite for 2.5 seasons, Kanter returns to Oklahoma City in the 2017-18 season opener at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
