Russell Westbrook’s strong run from last year is continuing this season. Despite most of the attention from the Oklahoma City Thunder focused on their “Big 3,” the reigning MVP is still performing at a very high level, recording triple-doubles with ease.

On Monday, he notched the 93rd of his stellar career against the Phoenix Suns as he finished the game with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. However, it wasn’t just any ordinary one for him, as he was able to move up the all-time assists list as well on the night by passing the great Larry Bird for 40th place.

Westbrook’s big night did not produce a win though, as the Thunder ultimately lost the game, 114-100. That snapped their two-game winning streak and saw their win-loss slate drop to 22-18 for the season. It was also just the fourth time in 14 games the team has lost with The Brodie recording a triple-double this year. Last season they were 33-9 whenever he reached that feat.

The six-time All-Star now has a total of 5,697 assists and trails Nick Van Exel who is at the 39th spot. John Stockton is the league’s all-time assists leader with 15,806 and his record has been standing since he retired back in 2003. However, more than the individual awards and honors, Westbrook has always been vocal that what matters to him is winning, and there is no doubt that he’s still focused on that. That said, he expects nothing but reaching a lot of success in order for the Thunder to live up to the hype that they are indeed serious title contenders.
