Russell Westbrook is one of the most intimidating players in the league right now. He can hurt opposing teams with his scoring, rebounding, and passing which often leads to wins for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
But one aspect of his game that usually leads to confrontations and altercations on the court is his trash talking.
However, Westbrook recently told ESPN that he doesn't talk trash just because he wants to.
He even said that he's usually not the one who initiates verbal jabs on the court:
“Me, personally, I don't just start talking trash out of nowhere, randomly. I may scream or, you know — that's how I play. But normally I'm not talking crazy. But if somebody's talking crazy to me, that's fine. We can do that.”
The All-Star guard isn't someone who's going to back down from anyone. He's always ready to match his opponents' intensity verbally or physically.

Just ask former teammate Kevin Durant, who's always guaranteed to have a shouting match with him whenever OKC plays the Golden State Warriors.
It's Westbrook's style of play, and it works for him and the Thunder. As long as no one's taking it personally, it's usually all good. However, Brodie is usually the one who can't get over what happens on the court.
He still hates Joel Embiid for an unintentional foul the latter committed against him a month ago. They were teammates during the All-Star game, but did not talk.
Westbrook has no plans of changing his style, or his game, just for the pleasure of anyone.
He will keep on doing what he's used to do and if that hurts anyone, that's his problem.
