Russell Westbrook usually loses his cool when an opponent disrespects him or tries to show him up. On Tuesday night, however, his teammate Steven Adams was at the wrong end of Westbrook’s ire after he passed up a wide-open dunk on an assist from the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard.
In the second quarter of the game between the Washington Wizards and the Thunder, Westbrook found an open Adams after the latter lost his defender under the basket. But instead of dunking it or laying the ball up, Adams passed the ball to Paul George who was also wide open at the 3-point area. Adams was called for a three-second violation for staying too long in the paint.
Article Continues BelowOne of the most passionate and emotional players in league history, Westbrook appeared to throw a tantrum immediately after Adams passed the ball. He continued to reprimand his center after the violation was called during the dead ball situation.
Had Adams taken the shot and made it, that would have been Westbrook’s seventh assist of the half. Even so, Westbrook was able to record another assist on a pass to Carmelo Anthony seconds later.
The Thunder won over the Wizards 121-112 a week ago with Westbrook exploding for 46 points, six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. The Thunder's fiery point guard was extra motivated for the game after he thought that he was picked last by LeBron James in the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. After the game, Westbrook found out that the list was alphabetical.
