The Orlando Magic have officially selected former Gonzaga Bulldogs point guard Jalen Suggs with the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft. Although Suggs spent just one season at the collegiate level as a member of the heralded Bulldogs, the up-and-coming signal-caller stood out from the jump and quickly became one of the top all-around players in the country as a freshman in 2020-21.

Jalen Suggs notably helped lead Gonzaga to an undefeated record until the final game of the season as the Bulldogs' only loss came as a result of the National Championship at the hands of the surging Baylor Bears.

A native of St. Paul, MN, the 20-year-old Jalen Suggs stands at 6'4″ while weighing just over 200 pounds. During his freshman season at Gonzaga, the soon-to-be NBA rookie point guard averaged 14.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists over the course of 30 appearances and 28.9 minutes per game. It is also worth noting that Suggs started as a result of all 30 of his appearances from this past season.

Granted Suggs played on the best team in the country for the majority of the season, but the freshman signal-caller still served as one of the more productive players in the nation. It's why he was a hot name coming into the 2021 NBA Draft.

It can no doubt be argued that Jalen Suggs was the most talented and most athletic player on the Gonzaga roster in 2020-21 while the Magic will now get a player who knows how to win, in addition to one that can make an immediate impact atop the NBA threshold. Nonetheless, this is a good pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
