Orlando Magic rookie Jalen Suggs is not letting his time away from the court go to waste after he sprained his left thumb which cut his Summer League stint short. The fifth overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft only got to play two games before exiting his third game with a hand injury. Still, Suggs was able to impress in the time he spent on the court which was, according to him, more than satisfactory.
“I felt like it went really good. I got to showcase my skills – played with the team, played with a couple of guys already on the roster, like R.J. [Hampton] and Cole [Anthony] and Franz [Wagner],” Suggs said (via fresnobee.com)
Suggs announced his arrival in Las Vegas with a huge first game, exploding for 24 points and a few clutch plays against the Golden State Warriors. All in all, the Gonzaga standout totaled 36 points, 19 rebounds, eight assists, five steals, and three blocks in those two and a half games.
“I’m looking forward to continue having an impact on the bench, using my voice, using my leadership. Just because I’m not on the court playing doesn’t mean I can’t help these guys while they’re playing,” Suggs added.
The 20-year-old has shown that he's a rookie that's wise beyond his years and Suggs' addition to a young Magic roster will be nothing but huge for new head coach Jamahl Mosley.
With Suggs on the sidelines, the Magic won their game on Sunday night against the Houston Rockets. They have one more game coming up against the Detroit Pistons and first overall pick Cade Cunningham on Monday.
