NBA free agent Nick Johnson was in the final season of a three-year $2.33 million contract that he signed with the Houston Rockets, then he was sent to the Denver Nuggets in the Ty Lawson trade.

The Nuggets waived Johnson in October of 2015, but are on the hook to pay the rest of his salary

Johnson who averaged 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds for the Nuggets is still without a team after a brief stint with the Austin Spurs in December 2015.

He's been using the extra time to rehab a back injury he suffered during his stay with the Nuggets.

Johnson told  Tucson.com that his experience had been frustrating.

I was just so out of the rhythm with Denver. I have to get back in rhythm, but I’m feeling 100 percent now. I feel great. So I just need to get in and find the right situation.

Nick Johnson has been getting back on track as of late. He played five games for the Orlando Magic in the 2016 NBA Summer League, averaging 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists. He also worked out this summer with UCLA's Don MacLean and UA guard Brendon Lavender.

He's hoping to find himself with a new opportunity weighing his options about which NBA team to play for.
