Al Horford was very effusive about his new partnership with frontcourt giant Joel Embiid after signing with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this summer. The longtime veteran and recent Boston Celtics center lauded the 7-foot big man, giving him the best of compliments during Sixers' Media Day on Monday.
“This is my 13th year in the league… being able to play next to a guy like Joel is really a dream come true for me,” said Horford, according to Serena Winters of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I believe he is the best big man in the NBA right now.”
Horford and Embiid have locked horns for the past few seasons, with the former being known as the kryptonite to the rapidly-improving young center.
The 33-year-old's mix of physicality, fundamentally-sound skill, and vast experience has been the perfect formula to negate Embiid's large frame and contain his athleticism, often leading to some of his worst and most frustrating statistical nights and all-around performances.
To hear Horford sign such high praise about his now-teammate has to be the best of truces and a massive step in the right direction as they both now hone into the same common goal.
It's tough to envision anyone being able to stop Embiid the way Horford was capable of.
Now with the veteran big man at his side, it's sure that Embiid will learn more than just a thing or two about playing and defending the post, so long as he's willing to listen and absorb the knowledge from the former All-Star.
