If all the Sixers drama wasn't already enough, there's apparently a group within the franchise who believe Ben Simmons actually faked the coronavirus situation against the Atlanta Hawks in last season's NBA Playoffs.
Let's unpack this quickly, as we shouldn't bury this lede. The following is a report from ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
Simmons was being held out of the team’s shootaround, he told them, due to a possible exposure to a team masseuse, who’d returned an inconclusive COVID-19 test.
Several players were questioned about whether they’d seen her that morning, but only Simmons said that he had.
“He answered the question honestly, without thinking of the implications,” says one source close to Sixers star Ben Simmons.
But according to multiple sources, many within the team questioned whether Simmons had actually seen the masseuse — or was just trying to get out of playing as he battled the basketball version of the yips.

Listen, given all the Sixers drama here, this could be considered a leak to make Ben Simmons look bad. After all, the timing of this report is a big strange and all that jazz. Then again, it was previously heavily inferred that Simmons — after randomly returning to Philly just a few days ago — wasn't vaccinated.
At the time of this writing, it is important to note that much of this is hearsay. Furthermore, details will likely come to the surface as this debacle continues to escalate.
But hey, at least Ben Simmons and the Sixers are keeping things interesting around the league until the NBA regular season starts in earnest.
