Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons was ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Sacramento Kings due to left knee soreness, as reported by Derek Bodner of The Athletic.

Simmons, who is currently averaging 15.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game, experienced the soreness after going through shootaround on Saturday morning. 

The Aussie’s status will be on a game-to-game basis. Although what’s good news for the Sixers is that they were able to handle the Kings just fine without their All-Star point-forward.

The Sixers hold the first place in the Eastern Conference standings. Without Ben Simmons’ co-superstar Joel Embid, the Sixers have won four out of their last five games prior to Friday–which isn’t too shabby at all.

The only loss the Sixers have endured so far post Embiid’s injury is versus the Milwaukee Bucks, who hold the third spot in the East.

Ben Simmons, who has had a good season so far, is one of the leading candidates to win this year’s Defensive Player of the Year award. His head coach Doc Rivers believes that Simmons should already be on the verge of winning the award. 

There’s still a ton of games to be played this season for the Sixers. Questions like if they can keep winning with Embiid out and remain in the first seed will be answered in the next coming games. Simmons will play a vital role in keeping Philly on track, at least with Embiid out with a knee injury.
