Philadelphia 76ers guard JJ Redick has found himself in a bit of hot water as a video of NBA players wishing Chinese fans a happy New Years was released, and in the video, the Sixers sniper appears to use a racist term.
In the video, it appears that Reddick says:
“I just wanted to wish all the NBA ch**k fans of China a very happy Chinese New Year”
The NBA has an exclusive agreement with Tencent to make content for the NBA and according to James Dator of SB Nation, that is who made the video, not the NBA.
Since that point, J.J has been taken out of the video, and he took to Twitter to explain what happened.
Article Continues BelowJust saw a video that is being circulated of me wishing a happy new year to NBA fans in China.Clearly I was tongue tied, as the word I purportedly said is not in my vocabulary. I’m disappointed that anyone would think I would use that word. I love & respect our friends in China.
It will be interesting what the NBA thinks about this situation, and if they will take any action against Redick for saying the comment, or Tencent for letting the video be released.
If he was suspended for a few games that would be a big loss for the Sixers. He is a starter for the team and is averaging 16.9 points, 3.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.
JJ Reddick is a three-point specialist and has really helped spread the floor for the 76ers this year, and that helps give Embiid more time room to work inside.
