Joel Embiid has some hefty hopes for the upcoming 2019-20 season, wanting to win two of the most coveted individual awards in the league along with the one common goal every team looks to achieve entering the new campaign. The Philadelphia 76ers big man is hoping to walk away with the title of Defensive  Player of the Year along with the Most Valuable Player award, topped of course, with an NBA title, according to Michael Lee of The Athletic.

Embiid is already a two-time All-Star in his three seasons in the league and has gained recognition as one of the best players at his position — and if listening to new frontcourt partner Al Horford, the best.

To walk away with this trifecta of awards, the 7-foot big man will have to put up a season for the ages. Only four players in NBA history have managed to win MVP and DPOY: Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, and Kevin Garnett.

Out of that list, only Olajuwon has been able to net the trifecta of the two aforementioned awards and winning the NBA title. He also was crowned Finals MVP during that rousing 1993-94 season.

If Embiid is hoping to keep Olajuwon company in that very exclusive club, he will have to truly stand out, as his impact will have to be that much greater than teammates Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, and Horford.

Yet it seems the big man is thoroughly motivated to make a splash this next season, shooting for the stars in what could be a definitive season for him and his team.
