Terry Harris has the tall task of making an NBA roster, while his older brother Tobias Harris will soon ink a $180 million pact with that very franchise, the Philadelphia 76ers.
The shooting stroke appears to run in the family at least, as the younger Harris has shown his long-range acumen in practices ahead of the Las Vegas Summer League:
“Terry picked up things we are doing really at a quick rate,” said Connor Johnson, who coaches the Sixers' Summer League team, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I think he's a big-time shooter and we've seen that. A lot of offense, you know, is based on ball-movement and spacing the floor and three-point shooting has been important to that, and Terry can really shoot it.”
Terry didn't have as prominent a college career as Tobias had at Tennessee, only averaging 8.1 points per game as a senior at North Carolina A&T. Yet he made the most of his opportunity in his last year of collegiate experience, shooting the 3 at a 41.1% clip while showing enough acumen to shoot it as a spot-up player or off the dribble:
“The coaches are very encouraging, telling me positive things like keep shooting the ball, and play my game out there,” said Terry. “They are looking for me to showcase my abilities in this summer league.”
The Sixers are loaded at the forward position, with Terry's older brother likely manning the small forward spot after Jimmy Butler agreed to join the Miami Heat. Philly could keep Terry in its farm system and sign him to a two-way contract if he proves worthy of sticking around after a good showing throughout these next few games in Las Vegas.
Philadelphia will play its first game of the summer on Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
