Tyrese Maxey has finally ascended. The Philadelphia 76ers guard is often seen as the “x-factor” to the success of the team. His scoring and playmaking potential is off the charts, obviously. Him being a dangerous threat on the court can only mean good things for Joel Embiid and James Harden's performances.
Well, in Game 1 of the Sixers' series against the Toronto Raptors, we got to see a glimpse of Tyrese Maxey's potential. The young guard went off for a massive 38 points to lead a strong showing for the home team. Maxey's 38 points made him the youngest player in Philly history to ever score more than 30 points in a playoff game. (via ESPN Stats & Info)
Tyrese Maxey went off for 38 points in the 76ers win. His 21 3rd-quarter points were the 2nd-most by a 76ers player in playoff quarter over the last 25 seasons.

Maxey overtook some amazing Sixers players for the record, such as Maurice Cheeks, Dolph Schayes, and Ben Simmons. The home crowd greatly appreciated Maxey's performance, greeting him with a standing ovation as he went to the bench.

The Sixers are hoping that Maxey can keep up this torrid pace throughout the Raptors series. With Scottie Barnes potentially missing some games after injuring his ankle, Doc Rivers has their opponents against the ropes. Pinning them with a 2-0 lead will give them a big cushion heading into Canada, which they'll sorely need with some of their players not being able to play there.
Maxey going off in Game 1 will also open up opportunities for both Embiid and Harden. The threat of Maxey's scoring will make Raptors defenders hesitant to help off him. That is great news for the Sixers stars, who will likely see more daylight moving forward.
