As bad of a season as it has been for the Phoenix Suns, they did get a victory of sorts on Tuesday night when the Miami Heat clinched their playoff spot.

The Heat will have to send their first-round pick over to the Phoenix Suns, and just how high it will is dependent on how much success the Heat are able to have over their remaining games.

For the Heat, they currently sit in the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference and if the season ended today, they would have to play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

For the Suns, they are receiving this pick because of a trade that was made in 2015 that sent the Heat point guard Goran Dragic. The pick was top-seven protected this year but would have become unprotected next year.

The Heat also owe the Suns their first-round pick in 2021, and that pick doesn't come with any protections on it. The Suns currently have the worst record in the NBA, sitting at only 20 wins, so they will have a very good chance of getting the number one pick.

With them picking up the Heat pick, that gives them a few chances to get another superstar to put beside Devin Booker. With the draft being pretty deep this year, the Heat's pick is probably going to give them more value than it would in most years.
