Phoenix Suns rookie Deandre Ayton is not just learning how to play basketball in the professional ranks, he's also learning a thing or two from the referees.

Per the Suns' Twitter account, Ayton shared that the referees are willing to talk and discuss some matters with him nowadays. In the NBA, it seems like the veterans only get that opportunity. Though surprised, the 20-year-old Ayton is taking this opportunity to learn more.

He shared a story on how he asked the referees about his defense during one possession and was called for the foul.

“Halftime, I just wanted to talk to the refs and I asked them ‘Hey, can you guys just watch my hands and see how I am playing defense?'

After the halftime he told me, he reviewed, he looked over, he said my hand was in the way before he went up with the ball. He said just get your hands out of the way and we got you.”

It's a good sight to see a young rookie like Deandre Ayton being conscious of his behavior towards the referees. Any basketball fan is aware of the love-hate relationship between the officials and players. Early on, the Suns youngster has realized that communication is key to this relationship.
