The Phoenix Suns have lost 17 straight games and are well on their way to the lottery this June. However, last year's first overall pick DeAndre Ayton seems to be tired of losing and is making it clear that he's ready to take the next step and become the franchise's leader.

“I gave them enough time to let them run what they got to run. Now I’m about to just take over now,” Ayton told Duane Rankin of Arizona Republic.

“It’s about that time to take over and not really look back.”

Deandre Ayton is clearly one of the best rookies this season. He is currently averaging 16.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 58.9 percent from the field. However, it is clear that the Suns' best player is still Devin Booker, and his 24.7 points and 6.7 assists show that the offense still run through him.

This statement by Ayton is a sign of something good, but only if he will be able to raise his game to the next level. In addition, it is not clear whether Booker and the Suns are ready to run everything through him.

Phoenix is expected to get one of the top three picks in this year's draft, which is projected to be oozing with talent. But Ayton believes his time is now and this is his team to lead. He's not looking back or forward, as he is just ready to take advantage of the present situation.

Where that leads him and the Suns remains to be seen.
