Phoenix Suns interim co-general manager James Jones thinks he and his group have “done a pretty damn good job” this season.

The Suns fired Ryan McDonough right before the season started. Jones and assistant general manager Trevor Bukstein have shared general manager duties since then.

“I think we’ve done a pretty damn good job,” Jones told Gina Mizell of The Athletic. “The perception is that we’re not out there [in terms of scouting]. We are out there.”

“We can talk about what happened in the past and what got us to this point — it’s irrelevant. Where we are is where we are and what we’re responsible for. We take that personally, and we’re gonna own these results.”

“It’s a work in progress, but I think we’ve made strides. We’re midstream. It’s never complete, but I think we’ve done a good job of outlining where we want to go.”

Since taking over for McDonough, James Jones and Trevor Bukstein have signed veteran shooting guard Jamal Crawford, traded veteran small forward Trevor Ariza to the Washington Wizards for forward Kelly Oubre and guard Austin Rivers, and traded stretch forward Ryan Anderson to the Miami Heat for guards Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington.

The Suns waived Ellington and Rivers, while Oubre and Johnson have played very well since coming to Phoenix.
