The Phoenix Suns have the best record in the NBA. They are one of the favorites to win the championship this year. It would mean a lot to lot of people, Chris Paul included. But Paul does not believe it's needed to validate his career. He joined J.J. Redick on the show “The Old Man & the Three” and spoke to that point, making a bold claim.

Redick asked him flat out whether he thought he needs to win the championship for validation. Paul acknowledged that he wants a title badly, but said “I'm so at peace.” He detailed how hard he is going to fight to win a title but said “I'm sure there's guys that done won the chip that would love to flip places right now.”

On its face, that sounds crazy. But if you look at Chris Paul's career as a whole, you can understand the sentiment.

Paul is undeniably a first-ballot Hall of Fame player. He is playing in his 17th NBA season and leads the league in assists, again. CP3 is averaging over 14 points, 10 assists and two steals per game this season and was just named to his 12th NBA All-Star team.

The Suns made a surprising run all the way to the NBA Finals last year. Ultimately, they fell just short losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. That was the first time in Paul's career he reached the finals.

He spent his first 12 years in the league leading the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Clippers consistently into the postseason.

Phoenix is showing that last season was not a fluke. They own the best record in the NBA at 41-10. Paul is one of the biggest reasons.
