It's officially a new era for the Portland Trail Blazers as the duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum has been broken up. McCollum was sent to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, as the Trail Blazers are now more keen on building for the future.

Lillard and McCollum made the Trail Blazers perennial contenders. The high-scoring backcourt spent close to a decade together, punishing opponents with their shot-making and clutch performances. Most importantly perhaps, they maintained a close relationship, with both pulling for each other at all times.

Lillard took to Instagram to post a heartfelt farewell message to McCollum. Make sure tissues are close by.

“Grateful for our brotherhood and friendship above all, bra. We knew this day would come but it doesn’t make it any easier. Hurt my heart to know s**t won’t be the same but the love gon' always remain, C! You know what time it is with me always. All the best going forward my brother.”

Indeed, Lillard and McCollum maintained a genuine partnership during their time together with the Trail Blazers. Although they fell short of winning a title in Rip City, fans will always remember them for not taking the easy way out and sticking it with the team.

Even though they're apart now, McCollum will always have a brother in Lillard and a home with the Trail Blazers.
