Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard has emerged as one of the top players in the NBA over the past couple of seasons. The five-time All-Star wowed the basketball world with his tremendous showing during the Disney World bubble en route to winning the bubble MVP award. Right now, though, Lillard appears to have set his sights on the regular season MVP title for 2020-21.

When asked about the possibility of achieving this historic individual feat, Lillard provided an honest answer:

“I feel like if we’re a winning team and we’re in that top two, top three — then I think it’s definitely a real possibility,” he said, via Jamie Hudson of NBC Sports Northwest.

In truth, this would have been overly ambitious for Lillard two or three years ago. However, from what we've seen from him last season, being named as the league's MVP for the upcoming season is no longer beyond him.

Last season, the 6-foot-2 point guard averaged 30.0 points (on 46.3 percent shooting), 4.3 rebounds, 8.0 assists, and 1.1 steals, while also connecting on 4.1 triples per game on a 40.1-percent clip. Those are indeed some MVP-caliber numbers, and Lillard himself acknowledged that his outstanding play last season is what led to all the MVP talk:

“Maybe because I had a good run in the bubble and I had a good run before I hurt my groin last year [right before the All-Star break],” he said. “It was pretty much the last probably 30, 35 games of the season.”

Personal accolades are great, but we all know that for Damian Lillard, it's all about winning. We have no doubt that he would give up any individual award in favor of the Blazers finally winning a title under his watch.
