The Sacramento Kings have probed interest in trading for Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeremy Lin, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times. The Hawks have also made veterans Kent Bazemore and Dewayne Dedmon available in trade talks, which should help to facilitate a deal.
The Kings are still looking to send out expiring contracts in Zach Randolph and Kosta Koufos, hoping to free up cap space for future free agents. Given their early success this season, a trade could put them in play for a postseason spot.
The Palo Alto native won't be back in the Bay Area, but could return to Nor-Cal after a cup of coffee with the Hawks this season under a reserve role, mentoring rookie point man Trae Young.
Lin played just 37 games through two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets from 2016-18, mostly due to lingering injuries. He also had a heartbreaking, season-ending ruptured right patella tendon during the fourth quarter of the team’s season-opener last year against the Indiana Pacers.
The Harvard alum has bounced back soundly, averaging 10.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 19.5 minutes per game. Lin is also shooting a career-best 47.8 percent from the floor through 39 games, already looking much healthier than he was during his most recent two years in the league.
Before his fateful stint with the Nets, Lin has mostly sported a clean bill of health. He played 71 or more games in his previous four seasons, including all 82 games in his third NBA season (first as starter) with the Houston Rockets in 2013-14.
