Boston Celtics rising star Jayson Tatum can't help but be excited about the future of Sacramento Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox.
Tatum, who was drafted ahead of Fox in the 2017 NBA Draft, acknowledged the improvement the Kings speedster has made in his first two seasons in the league. The Celtics forward then went on to say that he sees Fox making another jump going into the 2019-20 campaign.
“He made a great jump from his first year to second year,” Tatum said, via Ben Golliver in the Washington Post. “We all expect him to make a bigger jump going into his third year.”
Fox averaged 17.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in 81 appearances for the Kings last season, his sophomore year in the league. He shot 45.8 percent from the field, 37.1 percent from 3-point range and 72.7 percent from the free throw line. He
The 21-year-old Louisiana native may very well turn into the best player from that draft, too. Besides Tatum, Fox is developing quite well for the playoff-barren Kings, who have leaned into his fast-paced style of play on the hardwood and frenetic energy.
Fox has defensive chops and impressive court vision, which brought him close to winning the 2018-19 Most Improved Player award (though it eventually went to Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam). Now, he is expected to be seen on the international stage in China at the FIBA World Cup where he can show the world how big he has changed this offseason.
