The Sacramento Kings were one of the top surprises of the 2022-23 season. They consistently were able to hold a top four seed in the Western Conference standings and they snapped the league's longest active drought of missing the playoffs. They pushed the Golden State Warriors to seven games before being eliminated. This season though the Kings have been kind of one of the pack. They haven't done much to separate themselves from the rest of the conference. On Sunday, the Kings were embarrassed on their home floor by the New Orleans Pelicans, 133-100, which left Mike Brown apologizing to the home crowd as per Brenden Nunes of Sactown Sports 1140.
"Not much to say. They flat-out kicked our behind. One thing to say: I feel sorry for the fans who spent their money to come out and watch us play today."

The Kings are currently 21-14 and are in fifth place in the Western Conference standings in Mike Brown's second season as head coach. That's not bad, but it's not the leap that many expected from the team following last season. They're only 5-5 in their last ten games. The Kings are essentially tied with the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans for the fifth seed record-wise, but they currently hold the tie-breaker.
Even so, the Kings are only one and a half games behind the fourth seeded Los Angeles Clippers. There's still a lot of basketball left to be played this season and the NBA trade deadline is coming up. The Kings had been linked to Toronto Raptors star Pascal Siakam, but those trade talks have reportedly fallen through.
The Kings have been led this season by All-Star point guard DeAaron Fox. Fox has been averaging a career-high 29.2 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.6 steals with splits of 47.5 percent shooting from the field, 38.9 percent shooting from the three point line and 72.1 percent shooting from the free throw line.
