Anjali Ranadive, the daughter of Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, is moving up to a front office role in the organization.
According to Sean Cunningham of Fox40 News, Anjali is now the new Assistant General Manager of the team's G League affiliate, the Stockton Kings. She has been working in the Social Responsibility department of the franchise before the shocking promotion.
Per the Sacramento Bee, Anjali will have a full-time role as she serves under Stockton Kings general manager Paul Johnson. Part of her job is to assist in basketball operations and player evaluations. She'll also have a key role in player development and coming up with team strategies.

While having family members take a key role in the organization is nothing new in the NBA, the Kings' move was met by criticisms and backlash. After all, Anjali Ranadive is an aspiring singer/songwriter and has very little experience in running a team.

There are hundreds of pro scouts across the NBA putting in thousands of hours of work who would give a kidney to work as the Assistant GM of a G-League team, but the owner's daughter is allowed to parachute into the job to "pursue her passions"

Perhaps Vivek Ranadive's decision to make her an Assistant GM in the G League is some sort of training for her daughter to know the family business? Or maybe it is to prepare her for a bigger role with the main Kings franchise itself.
Regardless of the purpose, not a lot of people are happy about it.

The Kings have been the laughingstock of the NBA for decades now amid their long playoff drought, and sure enough, the decision to make Anjali Ranadive an Assistant GM will be scrutinized until she proves she can help in turning things around for the franchise.
