It's no secret that Rudy Gay‘s relationship with the Sacramento Kings‘ front office is tenuous, to put it lightly. This offseason, he questioned the direction of the franchise and cited the firing of Mike Malone as the start of the current regime's downfall.

Gay has since cleared the air with general manager and vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac, but their relationship still isn't exactly sparkling.

Rudy reportedly requested for the Kings to trade him back in early July. It seems like the comments mentioned above might've been a statement to Sacramento that he's serious about wanting to be shipped out of town.

One destination appeals to Gay above the others, but it appears to be logistically unlikely.

From Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald:

According to an associate, the Heat is among teams that very much appeal to Sacramento forward Rudy Gay, who has been available in trades. But Miami likely lacks the tradable assets to acquire him if it wanted to and his $14.2 million player option for 2017-18 is worrisome. Players signed this month in free agency cannot be traded until Dec. 15.

As Jackson mentions, Gay can opt out of his current contract after this coming season, which diminishes his trade value to potential suitors.

Last year, the UConn product averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor. He would fill a much-needed role in Miami; with the departure of Dwyane Wade, their depth on the wing is lacking. Putting the pieces together to make such a move just doesn't look like it's in the cards, though.
