He may only be 28-years-old and only entering his sixth season, but San Antonio Spurs‘ point guard Patty Mills is already thinking of his options once his NBA career is over.

In a recent Q&A with ESPN's Thomas Neumann, the 6-foot Australian was asked if he'd ever consider ending his career back in his home country and playing in their professional league. He had this to say:

“It's definitely a consideration — especially how well the NBL is doing now. They have my full backing and support, because the league has definitely risen to a whole other level in the last couple years, which is pleasing to see. I definitely would consider playing back in Australia at the end of my career. Not a lot of my family have been able to come over [to the U.S.] and watch me play. To be able to play in front of family and friends is very important to me, [so they could] be able to see me play live and not just on TV.”

During the Rio Olympics, the Boomers showed how far Australian basketball has come. Some of their players are already in the NBA and have been a more competitive team compared to the past years. They not only competed but always went for the win, just like how they fared against Team USA. Although they lost in the end, it was a close ball game and was only decided late in the fourth quarter.

Mills does not have to decide if he wants to play in ABL now as he's currently focused on the NBA season and contributing to the Spurs by providing quality minutes off the bench. The team has also added key pieces to its roster in its quest to win a championship this year. Should they win it all in June, it will be a big boost for the Canberra-native's stock as he is slated to become a free agent.

If he plays at a high level this year and prove that he is one of the best sixth men in the league today, Mills will certainly generate a lot of interest from teams looking for a solid point guard as he is slated to become a free agent after this season. It will also mean a huge pay increase for him if he gets offers from around the league.
