While the Golden State Warriors controlled center stage throughout the NBA season, the San Antonio Spurs were mercilessly dominant as well. They became the 12th team t0 win at least 67 games in a season, owning a 40-1 record at home while flexing their muscles on the road as well.
A large piece of San Antonio's success goes to the offseason acquisitions made by general manager R.C. Buford. Along with re-signing the likes of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Danny Green, Buford landed highly sought out free agent LaMarcus Aldridge, and he brought in David West for the veteran's minimum. Also, don't forget about Boban Marjanovic, who became something of a cult hero in San Antonio.
Recognizing these tremendous moves, Buford was voted as the NBA's Executive of the Year. It's the second time he has received the honor in the last three seasons.

Buford's humble nature reflects the mentality of the Spurs organization. Even with his peers believing he did the best job in the league, Buford continued to recognize others' achievements.
Article Continues BelowIncredibly deserving honor for R.C. Buford, but his own vote was cast for runner-up Neil Olshey, sources say. Great mutual respect.

Olshey, the runner-up, is the Blazers‘ general manager, who lost four starters but still managed to build a roster that has reached the second round. Warriors GM Bob Myers finished in third after winning the award last year.
The other GMs who received first place votes were the Raptors‘ Masai Ujiri, the Hornets‘ Rich Cho, the Celtics‘ Danny Ainge, and the Thunder‘s Sam Presti.
