San Antonio Spurs guard Dejounte Murray has been selected to replace Draymond Green in the All-Star game this February. Naturally, he got emotional when he learned the news.

Ahead of their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday, Murray opened up about how he learned that he will be going to the All-Star game along with Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball as replacements. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich apparently delivered the good news to him, which sent him in tears while he was with his family.

“Pop called me … then told me I’m going to Cleveland, I’m an All-Star. I broke down crying with my family,” Murray said, per Matthew Tynan of The Athletic.

It's hard not to feel for Dejounte Murray. As he narrated on Twitter after his All-Star selection, during Draft day in 2016, many teams doubted and judged him because of his past–growing up without guidance. He also highlighted how many thought he is done for after he tore his ACL in 2018, only to bounce back and become an All-Star years later.

While Gregg Popovich was consistent in endorsing Murray as an All-Star this year, he didn't have high hopes because of the Spurs' record. They are currently 12th in the West with a 20-34 record, way out of playoff contention.

Despite that, however, Murray's consistent play and all-around numbers were just too hard to ignore for Adam Silver and co. Certainly, he deserved that All-Star call-up.
