San Antonio Spurs point guard Dejounte Murray is eligible to sign a rookie-scale extension with the club.

If Murray and the Spurs can't agree to a deal before Oct. 21, Murray would enter restricted free agency next summer if San Antonio offers him a qualifying offer worth $3.5 million.

Murray wants to be on the Spurs for the long-haul, but says he's not thinking about his contract situation and is focused on leading San Antonio to the playoffs this season.

“My mind is not on that at all,” Murray said, via Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News. “Obviously, I want to be here for as long as I can, but those are things I can’t control. What I can control is getting better, learning and being a great person, being Dejounte Murray.

“If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. My main goal is to help this team get to the playoffs and do big things.”

Murray missed the entire 2018-19 season after tearing his right ACL in the preseason. The Spurs can’t wait to see Murray and Derrick White wreck havoc together in 2019-20. Both players are stout defenders.

Murray averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists during the 2017-18 season for the Spurs while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line.
