Dejounte Murray has arrived. The young San Antonio Spurs guard is having a breakout season, posting career-highs in nearly every stat. His arrival as a star has breathed new life into the franchise, and has them looking at a potential All-Star candidate.

If you ask former Spurs forward DeMar DeRozan, though, Dejounte Murray is already there. Following a stunning victory over DeRozan's Bulls, the All-Star forward raved about Dejounte Murray's progress, saying he deserves a spot in the All-Star game this year. (via K.C Johnson)

“That's my little brother, man. I got the utmost love and respect for Dejounte.”

Murray was long considered to be the Spurs' pet project. He had the physical tools to be successful in the modern NBA, and had the defensive instincts to boot. However, the knock on Murray has been his inconsistent offense, as he tended to be more laid-back on that side of the ball.

With DeRozan leaving the Spurs this off-season, though, the onus has been on Murray to step up big time. He delivered greatly, averaging career-highs in points (19.2 PPG), rebounds (8.4 RPG), and assists (9.1 APG). He has a legitimate case to be an All-Star this season, the way he's been playing for San Antonio.

Murray gives Gregg Popovich and the Spurs their best point guard since Tony Parker. The team might not be on the same level as the dynasties of old, but given the franchise's track record, it's fair to say they'll be great again after a few seasons. For now, though, they seem to have their franchise point guard of the future (and some great pieces alongside him).
