Tim Duncan has started fulfilling his role as one of the San Antonio Spurs' assistant coaches. His first task: working out with guard Dejounte Murray.

Last month, the Spurs announced the addition of Duncan to Gregg Popovich's coaching staff. He is expected to be on the sidelines with Pop instead of taking on a player development role as some would expect.

Murray, for his part, has been slowly developing into a decent point guard for the Spurs after being drafted 29th overall in 2016. In his rookie year, he spent some time with the team's G League affiliate. Come playoff time, San Antonio fielded him in lieu of an injured Tony Paker.

Murray's second year saw a stark improvement in his game. He played 81 games (48 stars) and averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals in 21.5 minutes. To top it all of, he earned NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors, becoming the youngest player to be named into one of the All-Defensive Teams.

It was a great sign that the Spurs have managed to pick up a player in the draft and develop him into an above-average player. An ACL injury in 2018 hampered Murray's immediate rise as he subsequently missed the entire 2018-2019 season. Murray has been cleared by doctors for all basketball activities, and based on the photo above, he seems to be doing alright and is ready to go.
