As the regular season approaches, teams begin to trim their roster down to size. In an attempt to do just that, the San Antonio Spurs waive Jaron Blossomgame, per Jabari Young of The Athletic. He appeared in three preseason games but played limited minutes.

Blossomgame, 25, was a second-round pick by the Spurs in the 2017 draft. His chances of making the Spurs roster have always been low, but he should continue his career in the G League and wait for his next opportunity. In 50 games with the Austin Toros, Blossomgame averaged 16.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He has yet to appear in an NBA game in his young career.

Blossomgame will likely return to Austin unless another team picks him up off waivers, although that seems unlikely at this point.

The Spurs are in the midst of some serious roster reconstruction. Obviously, the Kawhi Leonard trade that brought in DeMar DeRozan is the most obvious change, but Manu Ginobili's retirement is another big move for San Antonio. Furthermore, Dejounte Murray's torn ACL upends Gregg Popovich's starting unit and it potentially thrusts Patty Mills back into a starting role.

Popovich and his staff have some major decisions to make and this season may be Pop's toughest coaching challenge in some time. But if there is any coach in the NBA who can rally his team against all odds, it's Popovich. San Antonio is riding a 21-year postseason streak that looks like it may be in jeopardy this season. It's up to Popovich to guide his altered roster to another playoff appearance.
