The Philadelphia 76ers managed to get back into the win column with a clutch 118-113 victory over the Washington Wizards. Despite the close score, it looked as if the Sixers were going to run away with this one early thanks to the dominant performances of budding superstars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

However, the Wizards then turned to using the “Hack-a-Simmons” strategy in the fourth quarter and were almost able to make the Sixers pay for it. According to Jessica Camerato of NBC Sports Philadelphia, Simmons vowed to start hitting his free-throws:

“It’s not going to happen for that much longer. I’m going to knock them down.”

The Sixers were up by double-digits going into the final stretch of the game when they started hacking Simmons. The rookie phenom wound up taking 24 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter alone.

Unfortunately, he was unable able to make them pay after only hitting half of them. Simmons ultimately finished the game 15-of-29 from the free-throw line.

The former No. 1 overall pick is a notoriously bad shooter from seemingly anywhere outside of 10 feet and Washington was looking to take advantage of it. Although the Sixers managed to escape with the victory this time, the Wizards may have just exposed a glaring weakness that teams are sure to take note of down the line.
