When it comes to speaking his mind, San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has never been one to hold back. His straightforward self was in full display with what he said before tonight's game against the Brooklyn Nets at the AT&T Center.

According to a tweet that has since gone viral from Michael C. Wright of ESPN, Popovich gave a classic Coach Pop response when asked about why it's important to give back to the community.

“Because we’re rich as hell and we don’t need it all, and other people need it. Then, you’re an ass if you don’t give it. Pretty simple,” Popovich said.

The NBA is one, if not the most, socially-active leagues in the United States and it seems that more and more athletes and coaches are making their voices heard.

Dane Carbaugh of NBC Sports made a great point in his article about Gregg Popovich, as some people are likely to say “stick to sports” when these types of comments are made.

“Popovich has received some backlash for his comments, with fans asking him to “stick to sports” despite the fact that he is more than qualified to speak on political and global issues. Popovich served five years of active duty in the Air Force and was involved in intelligence gathering during the Cold War,” Carbaugh wrote.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, though, but the Spurs' Gregg Popovich is definitely never afraid to voice his.
