San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is undoubtedly one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. As such, you’d think he’d be right on top of everything during the course of a game and is never caught off guard, not even for a second.

But as it turns out, even Pop can miss a thing or two, even spectacular things like Manu Ginobili putting a supposed pass through the basket for a 3-pointer against the New York Knicks.

Per Brian Mahoney of the Associated Press:

Pop didn't know Manu's pass went in the basket. “Then everybody started grabbing me and saying the ball went in. I said, ‘Yeah, the ball went in!' I acted like I knew what was going on.”

It’s a heartening feeling to be reminded every once in a while that even great men like Pop aren’t perfect. They’re just human like everyone else and they too have to fake their way through some things every so often just to save face.

Most people likely would've been peeved had they missed seeing Ginobili’s magical pass-turned-shot live. But then again, Popovich has likely seen more than his fair share of improbable Ginobili plays over the course of the decade and a half they’ve spent together, so he shouldn't be too worked up about missing that particular one.
