The All-Star Game is still a couple of months away, but Pau Gasol thinks San Antonio Spurs teammate LaMarcus Aldridge has already earned his spot on the Western Conference team. The Spanish big man believes his frontcourt partner is “without a question” an All-Star based on his outstanding first quarter of the season.

Aldridge has simply been sensational for the Spurs as he has stepped up in the absence of superstar Kawhi Leonard. The 32-year-old put up a season-high 41 points on a sizzling 17-of-24 shooting against the struggling Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. Over his last two games, he has scored 74 points on 30-of-43 (70 percent) shooting.

Aldridge is now averaging 23.1 points per game on 52 percent on the season, numbers very similar to those he put up during his peak All-Star years with the Portland Trail Blazers.

With Blake Griffin set to miss a couple of months with a knee injury, Aldridge’s chances of making it back into the All-Star team after missing out last season should be that much better. Outside of the New Orleans Pelicans’ duo of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, it’s hard to find another big man in the West who is having a better season than Aldridge at the moment.
