Immediately following Kyrie Irving's trade request becoming public, the Minnesota Timberwolves emerged as a potential landing spot for the All-Star point guard.

Much of this centered around Irving being recruited by Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns to join the fray. However, Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau has revealed that this report was not true, according to John Meyer of canishoopus.c0m.

Although there is an obvious connection between the strong bond that Butler and Irving have, there is no truth to the matter. Keep in mind, Minnesota had acquired former All-Star point guard Jeff Teague in a three-year, $57 million at the start of free agency.

At this point, there is no need to add another point guard to the mix as the Timberwolves wouldn't be able to move Teague at the earliest until Dec. 15. There were reports that they were considering offering rising star forward Andrew Wiggins, who is reportedly nearing a max deal with Minnesota, in exchange for Irving.

However, this talk has diminished especially with the Boston Celtics working toward finalizing their blockbuster trade for the 25-year-old. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Celtics have until Wednesday to get the deal completed as the primary concern around the situation remains on Isaiah Thomas' hip injury.
