The Naismith Hall-of-Fame is widely considered the Mecca of basketball, where great players, coaches and other personalities of the sport are enshrined for what they have contributed throughout their careers. It is also where facts and numbers are accurate, especially of what has happened in history. However, a mistake in the Coaches and Team Gallery of the Hall has recently been drawing a lot of attention for its inaccuracy.
With the 2001 Eastern Conference Semifinals being one of the most heartbreaking series’ in Toronto Raptors history, many of their fans don’t want to be reminded of it, especially after they saw their team lose to the Allen Iverson-led Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7. It was also the match that saw Vince Carter fail to knock down a jumper to send the team to the next round. In the HOF though, it says otherwise, and gives credit to head coach Lenny Wilkens for apparently helping the Raptors eliminate the Sixers.

The Raptors had a very impressive run in the playoffs that year as they were able to advance to the second round despite only being the fifth seed. They went on to face the Sixers confident that they could pull off the upset against their heavily favored opponents. Not a lot of people gave them a chance though, and pushing the series to the limit is already a big achievement for them.
While the error can be considered a minor one that can be easily fixed, it still comes as a surprise to many, as they have very high regard for the Hall-of-Fame, and that it was completely unexpected. There’s no official word that has surfaced yet if it has now been corrected, but with how the Hall has been managed, and how quickly the mistake has made headlines, it can be expected that the people in charge of it have already made the necessary changes by now.
