This offseason could be a very interesting one for the Toronto Raptors. While they scour trades for OG Anunoby, they will have to sign Fred VanVleet to a contract extension.
After putting up a career year that saw the Raptors return to the playoffs, VanVleet has one more guaranteed year on his contract. He averaged 20.3 points, 6.7 assists and 4.4 rebounds while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from deep. The 28-year-old going from an undrafted player to an All-Star shows his commitment to his craft. Toronto has to do the same and sign him to another long-term deal.
VanVleet said that he and the Raptors are “a match made in heaven” and that he is confident the two sides can come to an agreement. He also said that he is fine taking a step back if it means the team gets better.

The Raptors are looking into the possibility of signing VanVleet to a contract extension, especially after he made his first All-Star game this season. Toronto is looking to build around him, Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes as they look to flip Anunoby. VanVleet's contributions on both sides of the ball make him invaluable to the team.
Toronto has a lot of work to do this offseason. Although they didn't have VanVleet near the end of their playoff run due to a hip injury, they likely wouldn't have made a deep playoff run. Still, with VanVleet leading the way, they will be close to title contention.
