Jeremy Lin is officially a member of the Toronto Raptors and will wear No. 17. However, before he chose his number, the guard texted former Raptor and current Memphis Grizzlies big man Jonas Valanciunas if it was okay for him to wear No. 17.

Valanciunas wore No. 17 with the Raptors. The center, who was a fan favorite in Toronto, was traded to the Grizzlies in the Marc Gasol trade. Valanciunas told Lin he was perfectly fine with it.

High-class move from Lin here. Valanciunas played 470 games with the Raptors. It's always a nice gesture when a player asks another guy if wearing his old number is okay. It shows the respect between the two players.

The Atlanta Hawks waived Lin, allowing him to sign with the Raptors. The 30-year-old is averaging 10.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season while shooting 46.6 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 84.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Valanciunas hasn't played since Dec. 12. He suffered a dislocated left thumb against the Golden State Warriors and underwent surgery. Memphis is still waiting for Valanciunas' immigration paperwork to process, so he likely won't make his Grizzlies debut on Tuesday against the San Antonio Spurs.
