OG Anunoby is one of the most exciting young players in the NBA and the Toronto Raptors are excited to watch his continued development. The long, athletic forward is a versatile defender that is perfect for the switch-happy playstyle in the league today. But Raptors fans will have to wait for their first preseason look at Anunoby this year.

According to Josh Lewenberg of TSN Sports:

“OG Anunoby has been excused from the team for personal reasons. He will not play in tonight's preseason opener.”

For now, this is all we know about why OG Anunoby is missing the Raptors' first preseason affair. There's no reason for Toronto fans to worry. In all likelihood, Anunoby needs to tend to something that will keep him out of Saturday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, but there's no indication that this issue is something that will keep Anunoby away from the team.

Hopefully, everything is alright with Anunoby. One's mind tends to gravitate towards the worst possible scenarios when “personal reasons” is given for an absence. No one wants that to be the case here.

But when Anunoby finally does return to the court, he'll look to build off of his promising rookie season. His statistics don't jump off the page, but his impact when he is on the floor is hard to ignore. His ability to play the four spot in a small ball lineup gives Nick Nurse and the Raptors flexibility in their lineup choices.

Hopefully, Anunoby is back on the court soon.
