Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr found one particular play fascinating during last night's win over the New York Knicks — and it wasn't even a basketball play.

Kerr's defensive anchor Draymond Green was the cool head keeping Kevin Durant away from the officials with less than three minutes to play, as the four-time scoring champion was one technical foul away from an ejection.

The Warriors' helmsman was asked about the incident after Durant picked up his league-leading fourth ejection of the season.

“Yeah, the ultimate irony,” said Kerr, referring to Green's helping hand, trying to get Durant out of further trouble. “Draymond was the voice of reason there. It's great.”

“He's been fantastic, Draymond has found that balance of competing and playing with that edge that we need without going too overboard with it.”

Durant was eventually ejected, but in a wild reversal of roles, it was Green playing the role of sane advisor, hoping his frontcourt partner wouldn't lose his cool with official James Williams, who ultimately tosses him from the game with 2:50 left in regulation.

Green has been quick to rack up technical fouls, with 11 of his own, along with two ejections a little past the halfway mark of this season. He was one technical shy of receiving a suspension last season with 15 in the 2016-17 campaign.

Durant himself is in dangerous territory, with 10 technical fouls and four ejections — as both could face potential sanctions from the league office if their behavior continues.
