Throughout his NBA career, Draymond Green has made a name for himself for being one of the most vocal players on the court. That said, it has led to him having a bad reputation and has often received technical fouls from the game officials.
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr recently talked about it and made it known that he wants the reigning Defensive Player of the Year to continue being “on the edge.” However, Kerr also admitted, via Melissa Rohlin of the Bay Area News Group, that it’s also difficult as the Warriors need Draymond Green more on the court.
Kerr said that Green's reputation leads to more techs: "A ref would probably be more likely to give Steph Curry a pass on a situation like that than Draymond just based on reputation."

Kerr on Green leading the league in techs: "The tough part is we need Draymond to be on edge. We don't want Draymond to be passive. We want him to be fiery. We want him to be yelling and screaming. He's got to walk that line. But it's a tough line to walk for him."

Kerr said he doesn't try to tone down Draymond: "Why would we? Draymond is one of the most impactful players in the league and does so many great things for us. He gives us an edge that we otherwise don't have. We have a very quiet team, you know, Steph, Klay, KD."

Steve Kerr on Draymond Green: "We don't spend a lot of time yelling and screaming. So we need the chest-thumping, yelling Draymond. We need that."

Green has been one of the league leaders for technical fouls the past few seasons. His reputation may precede him, but he also often tests the referees’ limits in allowing players to speak their minds during games. Green still reacts to almost all calls that are made against him, making him a strong candidate to be slapped with a technical night in and night out.
Steve Kerr hopes that his comments will serve as a reminder to Draymond Green on how important his role is to the Warriors. He may not want Green to be passive, but Kerr also wants him to have a better understanding on how to react and communicate with the referees in order to avoid receiving more technicals and even ejections as the season progresses.
